COVID-19 Dashboard – SEPT 2020 thru MAY 2021
Dear parents and community members:
Getting ready for next school year
We are now putting together plans to return to five-day-a-week school next fall for all students. In fact, you can read more about these plans in the links to two documents posted above this letter. We have submitted these plans to the Ohio Department of Education. I remain cautiously optimistic that we can return to “normal” when school begins on August 25. We will be monitoring the COVID situation closely over the summer.
Redistricting plan approved
Families living in Twin Lakes and Sugar Bush Knolls, who live west of Route 43, were notified that their school assignment is changing to Davey Elementary. However, any of these families who choose to remain at Walls Elementary can do so, and transportation to and from Walls will be provided. Parents must fill out Intra-District Open Enrollment Forms by July 9, 2021—and continue to submit the forms each year until their child transitions to Stanton Middle School. These families have been notified by letter and provided with important information about the process. From time to time, school districts redraw elementary boundaries due to overcrowding issues in one school, especially when there is space available in another school. Any questions should be directed to Superintendent George Joseph at 330-676-7610 or to firstname.lastname@example.org.
RHS grad competing at USA Special Olympics
Brendan Casey, a 2020 graduate of Roosevelt, will represent Ohio Special Olympics swimming at the USA games in Orlando, Florida. Brendan, who was selected because of his backstroke performance at the Ohio games last year, will train with other athletes this year in preparation for the competition. He is the first athlete in the 27 years of Special Olympics in the Kent City Schools to receive this honor.
Rough Riders Read returns with free books
Now in its third year, Rough Riders Read returns to give students in kindergarten through twelfth grade a free book. The popular program encourages students to read over the summer and avoid the “summer slide” of reading comprehension skills. Volunteers wearing masks and gloves will distribute the books to children, who must stay in their cars until their turn.
- July 13, 5 – 7 p.m., Al Lease Park
- July 27, 5 – 7 p.m., Davey Elementary
- August 10, 5 – 7 p.m., Longcoy Elementary
